Join us for a delicious tour in the heart of la Costiera and meet your local expert in the center of Amalfi, Italy’s oldest maritime republic. Amalfi is dominated by its impressive Duomo that combines an Arab-Norman style facade with indoor baroque architecture and bright, coloured tiles, and with steep steps that lead up from the main piazza. With your guide, stroll along the town’s narrow alleyways, learning about Amalfi’s history and discovering its many cultural treasures.
Today, your destination is the series of striking lemon groves clinging to the hillside above Amalfi and here, you can immerse yourself in the unique landscape and colors of the Amalfi Coast: vast expanses of lemon trees in small terraced fields clinging to a promontory that plummets straight into the deep blue Mediterranean sea below. Savor these glimpses of an authentic, rural side of the Amalfi Coast that most people never see, and, accompanied by your local expert, discover more about local cultivation techniques as well as all the secrets you’ll need to make traditional delicacies made with Amalfi’s Sfusato lemons.
Your class takes place at the oldest patisserie on the Amalfi Coast, an historic culinary establishment which first opened its doors at the beginning of the 19th century. All their delicacies, including chocolate and gelato, are still produced on site in their pastry-making workshop.
Pastry chef Andrea and his team still follow traditional recipes, including those that came from the nearby monastaries. These recipes have been jealously safeguarded through the years, and require the use of only the very best quality ingredients.
So, tie on your apron and and get ready for your hands-on pastry class in Amalfi. And during your class, you will also learn how to make limoncello and enjoy a limoncello tasting!
Learn about the ingredients and methods used to make delicious local pastries such as the “delizia al limone” – a delicate sponge cake drenched in lemon scented cream, the “Santa Rosa” pastry – a uniquely formed pastry shell filled with pastry cream and with a dark preserved cherry in the middle, “pasticciotto” – another delicious traditional filled pastry, and “scorzette di limone”, homemade candied orange and lemon peel dipped in artisan chocolate. Tastings follow: savor some of the Amalfi Coast’s and Italy’s most delicious desserts, including pastries first created in local monasteries, such as the Santa Rosa Sfogliatella. Toast with a glass of local limoncello.
